Jagjeet Singh Kandal is the Country Director at IDH India. With a career of 40+ years in the corporate world, Jagjeet has been a part of pioneering teams driving sustainability in companies like Unilever and the Tata Group through strategy and
partnership building along various agri-supply chains like tea, coffee, and spices, as well as management of key stakeholders from private sectors, governments, civil societies, industry associations, and worker unions.
Jagjeet was instrumental in incubating sustainability standards incl trustea (India’s only sector specific and national code for sustainable tea production) in close involvement with all stakeholders, which accounts for 70% of the packed tea market
today. He has over his career been a co author of six Sustainability standards focusing on Agriculture, Environmental, Social and Economic criteria.
While with Unilever, he delivered sustainability programs as a tea packeteer across geographies of Asia and Africa. In his most recent role at the Tata Group where he retired as MD and CEO of Amalgamated Plantations, he led scale programs for
farmers, workers, incl families in delivering improved health, hygiene and living conditions on the tea estates. He has been an active member of the Global Tea Coalition representing both the tea producer and tea packer for the Tata Group. He
has been Vice Chairman – Tea Research Association-India, Vice Chairman International Union of Tea Industry Cooperation-China and Vice Chairman of APPL Foundation.
